Rules
8 People Max

Teams can have up to eight team members; one team per person.

Impact

Your project should be related to GumGum’s businesses.

The Demo

The final project deliverable does not need to have a code component. However, if it is a live demo with code, note that it shouldn’t impact GumGum’s production systems.
For other projects that focus on a proof-of-concept or prototype, for ex: process improvements, these types of demos can be done through mockups.

Due Date

The Elevator Pitch and the Presentation are due July 31 @ 7am Pacific time.

Presentation

Each team will have 10 minutes to present their project to our panel of judges, with 5 minutes of Q&A. NOTE: All teams will receive feedback from the judges during the Q&A, and the scorecards will not be shared.

Elevator Pitch

Create and record a fun 30-second elevator pitch that is separate from the presentation so that it can be shared for voting purposes. The elevator pitch should be delivered at the same time as when the presentation is submitted.

Open to all

Hackathon is accessible to ALL. You don't need to be an engineer to join and you're free to participate from anywhere. Having representation from all departments helps to define product requirements, with finding the right business use cases for the idea, and the testing and/or working on the sales pitch and presentation deck.

Take a break from your usual work projects

If you participate, you are not expected to perform your usual day-to-day work during the Hackathon. Your manager has been informed and will help you accommodate your schedule, so you have as much free time as possible during the Hackathon. If you’re still worried about your workload, typically participants don’t need to hack for the entire 2 days. And since we’re virtual, you can also participate and check in on work at the same time.

We've got the answers for your questions

When is the Registration Deadline?

The deadline to sign up is on June 18, 2025. You don’t need to have a team or an idea to sign up!

What is a Hackathon?

2 days for groups of people to work together to bring an idea to reality. It’s a fun way to work on something new and exciting, and potentially win prizes!

Is the Hackathon mandatory?

No, but everyone is encouraged to participate!

Who can participate?

Everybody is welcome to participate, including non-engineers and employees all over the world. Part of the judging criteria for winning projects is team diversity. Use this as a chance to meet and work with GumGumers across the organization!

I have too much work, I won’t have time to participate!

Are programming/hacking skills necessary to participate?

Not at all! Non-engineers can help in defining the product requirements, finding the right business use cases for the idea, helping with the design and the testing and/or working on the sales pitch and presentation deck.

How does the timing work for participants in different timezones?

Each region has its own official starting time, most of which begin at 9am local time on the first day of the Hackathon. For teams that span multiple regions and timezones, feel free to modify and adjust as necessary. However, please be considerate and do not hack for longer than 48 hours to ensure it is fair to all teams.

Who do I reach out to if I have any questions?

There are numerous ways to send a question. Send an email to hackathon-org@gumgum.com, post your questions in the #hackathon slack channel, or reach out to any of the hackathon organizes: Iris Fu, Andrew George, Santiago Campuzano, Jonathan Mullians, Sheena Deans, Brittany Walker, Olivia Holland, or Hayley O'Mara.
